Keratin Hair Treatments
Ever wonder what goes into
a professional keratin treatment? How long does it last? What’s the day-to-day
upkeep? How much money do you have to spend?
Here’s a quick guide:
What is keratin? Keratin is the protein that makes up your hair.
How it Works: A professional hairstylist applies a keratin straightening product
to your hair and then uses the heat of a flat iron to seal it in.
How long does it take? The process usually takes about 90 minutes or
longer depending on how long your hair is.
Time Saver:
If you normally style your hair straight, a keratin treatment could decrease
your blow dry time by 40-60%
Frizz Be Gone! You can walk out into any kind of weather and not have to worry about
frizz after a keratin treatment – it’s that simple!
Wait before Washing: Definitely let between 3-4 days pass before
washing your hair so the treatment can really sink in.
Upkeep:
Once the 3-4 days are up, you should use a sodium-sulfate-free shampoo to help
maintain the treatment
How Long Does it Last? Expect the results to last between 2 to 2 ½
months.
Cost:
Anywhere from $150-$300 depending on the type of treatment and the length of
your hair.
Keratin is more of a
restorative treatment, it will not damage or break your hair, but the hot iron
may. If the hot iron is too hot, the hair could get damaged so make sure you’re
going to a professional hairstylist whom you trust.
If
you have psoriasis or dermatitis, check with your dermatologist first before
getting this kind of treatment.
Much Love,
